Instra:mental
Resolution 653
NonplusCD003
****
I Just got my crusty crab claws on a promo copy of Instra:mentals forthcoming LP Resolution 653. I'm happy to report it’s a damn weighty excursion, conflating early 90s house, Juke and dubstep. What would’ve been quite an ambitious release a few years ago feels incredibly palatable in the vaster post-dubstep incubator we live in today. Banging out a salvo of drums that come through hot and sharp, audio receptors are left pondering the dusty dystopian scapes that only old vets can conjure. There’s a family of interstellar beep-bleeps here that weave through the album, keeping producers like Juan Atkins misty in the back of your mind. Favourite titles include Sun Rec, Plok and Thomp. Most of these have been grabbing daylight through squinted eyes in Boddika’s recent sets. The gods of electronic music should be more than chuffed with this offering, an album that, while not ground-breaking, certainly rolls as deep as Davina McCall’s crevice (thats deep!).
Due for a release 11/04/11 on digi,cd and 12".
